Bees and Booze: Welcome to Glasgow!

Greetings from the future! Well I finally made it! The flight from SFO was fairly uneventful, and pretty pleasant! Each seat had its own TV and ~30 movies to choose from, so the time passed fairly quickly. Once I landed in Heathrow, walked the mile to the bus which took me to the terminal where my next plane took off then stood in the WRONG line for customs, was directed to the correct line, went through customs, stood in the 30 min line to go through security AGAIN (though i didn't have to take off my shoes!) I finally was in the correct terminal and ready to go on my flight to Glasgow. Then my flight was delayed. So I sat around Heathrow waiting for them to at least let me know what gate I was supposed to go to. But eventually we all got on the plane and the trip to Glasgow was quick and easy.  After we flew through a cloud I was prepared for my entry into rainy, rainy Glasgow. But after we passed through I looked over the entire city with the sun beaming down on it and the most glorious rainbow!  I saw at least 4 golf courses, sheep, kids playing soccer, school from the air, and a lovely view of the city as a whole.  Glasgow International Airport is certainly much smaller than Heathrow, but it was much easier to navigate.  All of my bags made it through, though I thought at first they were lost which was thoroughly disheartening, until one of the carrousel guys asked me "Where did you come from lassy?" and lead me to the correct room where both of my bags were waiting!
After a short (and cheap) cab ride to my hotel, and a difficult time getting all my shiz into the very small lift, I was at my room! Its really nice, the beds are comfy and theres free wifi! After I got dinner and took a shower I pretty much passed out, but woke up at 1:30 because I was too cold (left the windows open) and then again at 4:30 because I was too hot (left Anns quilt on). So I decided to open the window again to get some air in. Its amazing how quiet the city is at night, silent.  Until i got back into bed and chickens started to cluck and crow! I have no idea where they were in downtown Glasgow, but needless to say I closed the window again.
Today (Thurs) I took the underground to meet my big vet in a different part of the city. Since I left early to ensure that I would get there on time, I killed the remainder of my time at  Starbucks, naturally. The selection of things here are far more extensive (and tasty) than those in the US (they even had pancakes!), and you have the choice of sitting in or carrying out. If you sit in you get a mug!  When I met my big vet we walked to her favorite coffee spot and had another cup of coffee and chatted a bit. Then she took me a whirl-wind tour of the main campus and the vet campus. I took a few pictures, with more to come, because I didn't want to stop every 5 seconds to take one. Campus is beautiful! And I walk to campus through the botanic gardens, and it is the most beautiful commute, except it seems that I only have 1 class at the main campus, so I won't be making that trip too often.
After we walked from Uni to my dorm we walked to the vet school and stopped at Lock 27 for a bite to eat and a glass of cider. The walk for the dorms to the vet school is along a canal, also quite beautiful, and a family a swans joined us for lunch, as did a bunch of yellow jackets that were keen on drinking out cider and kept flying in the glasses to drink it. So even the wildlife here likes booze.  Apparently this is the place where most of the vet students hang out after exams and such because its so close to the campus, and they have different nights like trivia and karaoke! After lunch she toured me around the vet campus, which also is amazingly beautiful and has cows! Again, more pictures to come. Then I saw her flat, which is super cute, and took the train back to Bath St and walked back to my hotel, stopping to grab some stuff for dinner. It was such a lovely day! The sun was out and it was warm, so it seems that the CA weather has followed me here, at least for the time being. So even though it's supposed to rain tomorrow, hopefully it won't and I can move into the dorms in dry weather! Thats pretty much else for now! I'm going to re-pack all my stuff and I move into the dorms tomorrow!
