Zombies, RUN!

So not too much going on here but preparing for exams!! Well just 1 exam really, but still, the term is winding down! Today I went for a wee run with my new iPhone app zombies, RUN! It is so much fun! I ran through a park next to the river and there were no people, so it really did seem like a zombie apocalypse, and I also got attacked by zombies. Such a fun game! I highly recommend it! Other than that not much going on, so heres a funny vet video someone posted on our fb page, enjoy!

Weekend of Dreams

How do I even begin to describe this weekend. Well it started with Mr. Vet school, basically a pageant starring the more brave men in our class. Judged by our professors (and with guest appearances by some of our professors as well) it had formal wear, swimsuit, talent, and ended with a wresting match between the 2 who were left standing at the end. And to top it all off 1st years won!! The first time ever, because our class is so awesome! Then it was vet ball, when we all get gussied up and have a real formal evening! It was at the Hilton this year, so it was a pretty swanky evening. Everyone looked amazing, and there was plaid as far as the eye could see! We had dinner and then a ceilidh, where I attempted to recall the dances I learned at the beginning of the term (with limited success, good thing they teach you the dances right before you dance). A great time was had by all (side note, guys most certainly do not wear pants under their kilts, I saw more of my classmates than I perhaps wanted to).  Today we pretty much enjoyed one last easy day before real intense studying begins next week and the week after. I can't believe this terms already over! And them time to go lambing! So exciting!!

Phantom Vaginas

Sun was a pretty chill day, I got to watch an upper years dog and we went for a few walks in the botanics and he kept me company while I studied all day, so a pretty relaxed day. Monday was business as usual, class all day and it was, once again, super cold and rainy, so once I got home it was time to hunker down.
Today was another Cochno day, and what a day it was! First, we didn't have class in the morning so I had a bit of a lie in and some pancakes for breakfast in honor of pancake day! The took the bus to campus with plenty of time to spare to catch the bus, only to find that the bus driver had decided to leave 30 mins early!! Fortunately like half of the class was left behind, so I was able to hitch a ride there with a friend. Once we got there we were greeted by rows of metal boxes half filled with water and with sheep pelvises positioned in them. What were these boxes for you may ask? Why for putting dead frozen lambs in and then trying to pull them out the 'phantom vagina' with the use of ropes and wearing gloves up to our shoulders. Good times at vet school! After that (today was a particularly long cochno day) we had pig and poultry handling. We had a bit of lunch then watched a movie about poultry handling and watched someone, out of nowhere, neck a duck (aka break its neck) then moved on to hold japanese quail, layer hens, and pet some pigs! The pigs were totally the best, and they kept biting our trousers! But they were super adorable! Well that's about it for now, the term is winding down! So crazy how the time flies!

Stirling

We explored Stirling today and had a really good time! Except for the fact that it snowed, hailed, and rained there, all while being 2C and windy! But it's a really pretty city, though we missed out on the hike to the William Wallace monument, so we'll just have to come back! But as it only costs 5q to get there I imagine that we will return! Now I'm cozy in my room enjoying not being freezing! SO much for the warm weather!

Pub Quiz

We went to pub quiz last night and won 2nd place! Next week first! And for our troubles we got a tron toy (random) and a toblerone! But it was mostly just good times!

Getting Warmer

Today was a pretty easy day. We learned about eye anatomy and then I hit the gym, ran a bunch, then came home and studied. But it IS getting warmer here! I'd say almost as warm as Hawaii ;) Hope y'all enjoyed the lambing video, now heres one of calving! Good stuff! (this calf is Limosine and Holstein mixed, no wonder the mom had issues birthing!!)

Nothing much to report, just went to the gym and studied a bit today. The weather is improving which is nice!. Also happy Valentines day! Hope everything is going well stateside!

More Keys

Black Keys

This week was a combination of lots of fun, and then not so much fun. It was my friends birthday last Fri so we went out to Waxy O'Connors, which is a bar thats like a tree house, you really have to see it to believe it! We had a lot of fun and then sat was the Black Keys concert in Edinburgh, which was amazing! Truly one of the best concerts I've ever been to, we all had an amazing time. Then Sun was spent studying and 3 of us went to tasty vegan brunch, which was delicious and an extension of my friends birthday weekend. Then sun evening through thurs I was ill, so that was fun. My congestion finally ended yesterday, so as far as I know I'm all well again! This weekend has been spent studying and I skyped with dad last night. It took him a while to get to shore because it was raining (tell me about rain, it doesn't really mean much anymore!). A special hello to everyone in Hawaii, my weather shows that its quite nice there, here its 7 C, which actually is pretty warm! Too bad I have to study or I'd be out enjoying the nice weather! This week I also learned how to wash my hands and boots, so I'm learning new skills all the time!

Cleanliness is close to Vetliness

So.Much.Cleaning. That's basically all I did today, deep clean my ENTIRE dorm room, did a massive load of laundry, as well as class and gym. So a productive day to say the least, though not that interesting to blog about. So instead I'll entertain you with a game I like to play while I study. Its called, what would this be for humans, ie: what would a medic have to learn about humans if they were studying them like vets study animals. Nutrition? Appropriate housing? How much does the temperature change in a house when 4 humans live in it? It is properly ventilated? Is there a draught? What is the stocking density? What is the normal state for a human to be in? How would they behave before they were domesticated? Non-vets may not find this as entertaining as we do, but it certainly makes for some fun discussions! Now off to study nerve blocks, what I wouldn't give for a horse forelimb right about now!
